Lottery Officials remind players that Internet apps are not authorized/licensed retailers
PHOENIX (December 17, 2021) – As the Powerball jackpot climbs to $353 million, the Arizona Lottery is reminding everyone that the only authorized way to purchase Powerball and Mega Millions tickets in Arizona is through a licensed Arizona Lottery retailer.
Companies selling Powerball and Mega Millions tickets online are doing so with no oversight and with no authorization or affiliation with the Arizona Lottery, Powerball or Mega Millions. Arizona Lottery is the only organization within the state of Arizona authorized to issue Lottery products. Arizona Lottery has no relationship with any mobile app based company selling lottery products online.
Claims that these products offer players a safe, secure and reliable way to purchase draw tickets through their mobile apps, have not been substantiated by the Arizona Lottery. As these apps are not operating legally within the state of Arizona, the Arizona Lottery cannot guarantee the validity of purchases made this way or that any prizes would be paid to players who use these apps to redeem their tickets.
It is also important to note that these apps charge players a “convenience fee”, which means players pay more for their tickets than they would by purchasing them directly from a licensed Arizona Lottery retailer.
“The Arizona Lottery prides itself on ensuring the integrity of our operations and providing an exciting and entertaining experience to all our players,” Arizona Lottery Executive Director Gregg Edgar said. “Because these out-of-state ticket sellers are not operating legally within the state of Arizona and charge players more for tickets sold through their apps, we strongly recommend players continue to do business with our trusted network of licensed retailers across the state. By buying in Arizona, players are doing the most good for their economy and their community, not to mention getting the best value for their money.”
