Glendale Couple Claims $1.1 Million The Pick Jackpot

Arizona Lottery presented check to new Arizona millionaire couple today

PHOENIX (July 27, 2009) — Glendale residents Jess and Shirley Uselton claimed their The Pick $1.1 million check today from the July 11 The Pick drawing.

The couple purchased a ticket for the Wednesday drawing, then headed out of town. It wasn’t until Sunday that they checked their numbers online from out-of-state. To their pleasant surprise, their The Pick numbers, which they’d been playing for a number of years, were the matching numbers for the July 11 The Pick jackpot. Interestingly, the Uselton’s had a second winning The Pick ticket worth $3, too.

“We had a good feeling about this drawing, which is why we checked our numbers online while out of town,” shared Jess Uselton. “We’ll probably take an Alaskan cruise with some of the money.”

“Some people play just for the fun of it,” said Jeff Hatch-Miller, executive director of the Arizona Lottery. ”For whatever reason you play, it is always great to win!”

The Arizona Lottery presented the Useltons with a check for their winnings at a press conference this afternoon at the Lottery’s Phoenix office. The Uselton’s took a 30-year annuity, which means $36, 666.67 a year, before taxes, on the anniversary that the ticket was claimed—July 24.

They purchased their winning ticket at the Fry’s Food Store at 5771 W. Thunderbird Road in Glendale. The winning numbers were 2, 5, 8, 10, 11, and 24.

Drawings for The Pick are broadcast Wednesday and Saturday during the 10 p.m. news on Channel 15 (ABC) in Phoenix, Channel 13 (CBS) in Tucson and Univision in Spanish.

Players can check their numbers by logging onto arizonalottery.com or by calling the winning numbers hotlines at 480-829-PICK in Phoenix and 1-800-499-3798 in all other Arizona areas.
